A gala and auction, Salvations serves to uplift a culture of creative reuse, demonstrating to our community that reclaimed materials have extraordinary value. Hosted by the Green Project, a New Orleans-based environmental nonprofit, at the beautiful City Park Arbor Room at Popp Fountain, the evening event includes a locally crafted dinner, open bar and live music.
This year, 20 local designers handcrafted over 30 unique pieces of furniture, lighting and functional art for the 2018 Salvage Design Competition. Each piece was made out of 90% salvage materials found across New Orleans and the Gulf South. The pieces are juried and awarded 6 top prizes the night of the gala. Each item will be up for bid in support of both the designers and the Green Project.
Salvations Gala + Auction is proud to be a zero waste and sustainable event, sourcing only local vendors found right here in New Orleans. At the event, all food waste, plates, cutlery, napkins and cups will be composted. All plastics, cardboard and glass will be recycled. Event signage and decor will be both handmade with salvaged materials and completely reusable.
Serving New Orleans since 1994, the Green Project's mission is to promote a culture of creative reuse by diverting usable materials from landfills and cultivating a respect for their value.
Through their salvage store, paint recycling program, education and community empowerment, the Green Project diverts 40,000 gallons of paint from wetlands, reclaims 2 millions pounds of materials from the landfill and educates over 700 students and residents every year.
